HCA- Safeguarding Young People Transitioning to Adult Services

Who should attend:

Ideal for social workers, care coordinators, safeguarding officers, and transition
workers who support young people moving from child to adult services. It’s also valuable for health
and social care professionals, including nurses and mental health practitioners, involved in the
assessment process along with team leaders and managers overseeing safeguarding or transition
planning.

This is an in person training taking place at AH Level 1 Collaboration Space.


Overview:

Staff attending this course will gain critical knowledge and skills for safeguarding young
people transitioning from child to adult services. Transition periods are vulnerable times and
understanding key topics such as the Care Act assessments, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty
Safeguards (DOLS), and adult safeguarding processes ensures professionals can provide effective
support. The course fosters confidence in applying tools like the Continuing Healthcare (CHC) checklist
and Decision Support Tool (DST), while exploring the role of the Independent Mental Capacity
Advocate (IMCA). Staff will leave equipped to navigate complexities, make informed decisions, and
uphold the rights and well-being of transitioning individuals.
